Bonamici Disappointed by Senate Confirmation of Scott Pruitt as EPA Administrator
WASHINGTON, DC [02/17/17] —Today Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR), the Ranking Member of the Environment Subcommittee of the House Science Committee and Co-Chair of the House Oceans Caucus, issued the following statement after the Senate confirmed Scott Pruitt to be the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
“As the top Democrat on the Environment Subcommittee, I take seriously my responsibility to protect the environment and the health of people across the country,” said Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici. “I am very disappointed that the Senate has confirmed Scott Pruitt to serve as the Administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency. Pruitt has a long record of defending polluters and ignoring the clear scientific evidence on climate change. Instead of steering our country toward forward-thinking climate change solutions, he will drag us back to the days of polluted rivers and dirty air.
“Pruitt is just another example of the Trump Administration nominating divisive Cabinet candidates who are hostile to the missions of the very agencies they are tasked to lead. On behalf of Oregonians and the environment, I will do everything in my power to reject ideological attacks on science and stand up for the EPA’s critical work to address climate change and protect our families from pollution.”
