Statement on House Discourse

February 11, 2019

I am disappointed by the comments of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar because they included inflammatory stereotypes about the Jewish community and supporters of Israel. Our country deserves a higher level of discourse on all policy issues we consider in the House of Representatives. We must resist the efforts of those who seek to divide us and instead work together to engage in thoughtful conversations, seeking mutual understanding so we can achieve peace in the Middle East through a two-state solution. I stand ready for increased engagement and dialogue to end our country’s disturbing trend of hateful rhetoric and violence toward a number of groups, including our Jewish and Muslim neighbors.
