Bonamici Announces Winner of Congressional Art Competition
PORTLAND, OR – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (OR-1) is pleased to announce the winner of this year’s Congressional Art Competition for Oregon’s First District. Harrison Wallace of Portland won the contest with his photograph entitled, “Love in the Third Degree.” Congresswoman Bonamici will host a reception to celebrate Harrison’s winning submission Tuesday evening at her district office in Portland. Members of the community and press are invited to attend.
“Harrison’s photograph is a remarkable piece of artwork, and I’m honored to bring it back to Washington, D.C. to represent our district in the halls of Congress,” Congresswoman Bonamici said. “Competitions like these are a wonderful opportunity to recognize our talented young artists and be reminded of the importance of arts education in our schools.”
Harrison was excited to hear his work had been selected. A senior at Wilson High School, Harrison has been learning about photography and developing his own personal artistic style for the past few years. Regarding his winning photograph he said, “I wanted to do something that represented what I did, where I’ve been, and what’s been going on in society.”
Eloise Damrosch, the Executive Director of the Regional Arts and Culture Council, reviewed all the submitted artwork and selected the winning piece. Harrison’s winning submission (above) will hang for one year at the United States Capitol.
