Bonamici Applauds President’s Plan to Address Climate Change

June 25, 2013
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR), the ranking member of the Science, Space, and Technology Subcommittee on Environment, today released the following statement applauding President Obama’s plan to address climate change.

“Human caused climate-change is triggering devastating changes to our environment and action is long overdue. Severe weather events have crippled communities across America and around the world. In Oregon, coastal communities are seeing the harmful effects of ocean acidification, and producers of specialty crops are beginning to feel the early impacts of rising temperatures.

“The President has recognized the gravity of this problem by outlining a series of executive actions designed to cut greenhouse gas emissions, but he is limited by a Congress that has failed to take the issue seriously.

“America has the ability and obligation to lead the world’s efforts to curb climate change, and I support the President’s call for redoubling efforts to reach a new global agreement to reduce carbon emissions. I will continue working with my colleagues to emphasize the need for legislation to meet these challenges.”
