Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC [02/07/17] — Today Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) issued the following statement after Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) announced baby Fatemeh Reshad has been admitted to OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital:

“I’m very relieved to learn that baby Fatemeh and her parents have arrived safely in Oregon,” said Congresswoman Bonamici. “Thank you to OHSU for their continued commitment to care for Fatemeh throughout her difficult journey. The outpouring of support from the community and offers of help from so many across the country show the true heart of our nation. We help one another; we do not close doors to a four-month-old baby in need of life-saving heart surgery who poses no threat to our nation’s security.

“As a mom, I know that parents will do everything they can to care for their children. Fatemeh will now receive world-class care at OHSU with her family and community supporting her. Let’s honor the family’s request for privacy, and send them our best wishes for a successful procedure and speedy recovery for Fatemeh.”

Last week, Bonamici spoke on the House floor to draw attention to four-month-old Fatemeh, who lives in Iran. President Trump’s Executive Order has halted her family’s efforts to get her life-saving heart surgery in Oregon.
