Bonamici to Speaker: Let us Vote to Reopen the Government

October 3, 2013
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today released the following statement calling on House Speaker John Boehner to allow a vote on compromise legislation to reopen the government.

"We should be voting on a resolution that will reopen the entire government. Instead, the Speaker is bringing us piecemeal bills that would fund only certain agencies or groups, will not be taken up by the Senate, and would be vetoed by the President."

“There are 800,000 federal workers whose paychecks are in jeopardy, hundreds of millions of dollars are being wasted on shutdown costs, mothers who rely on WIC to feed their children are out of luck, and small business owners waiting for loans aren’t having their applications processed.”

"I call on the Speaker to stop using valuable time on bills that won't move forward and let us vote to keep the government open right now."
