Bonamici Statement on President Trump’s 100th Day in Office

Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC [04/29/17] – Today Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) released the following statement on President Trump’s 100th day in office:

“President Trump has now been in office for 100 days. In the past month, I’ve heard from thousands of constituents in town hall meetings across NW Oregon, and their message has been clear - protect our democracy and stand up against the dishonesty and harmful policies that are coming from this Administration.

“In his inaugural address, President Trump pledged to serve the American people, but his actions, words, and policies in his first 100 days in office are wildly out of step with Oregon and American values. Nearly half of the 28 bills he has signed into law repealed policies that stood up for American workers, defended our planet, increased access to affordable higher education, and protected seniors. He has eliminated important consumer protections for student loan borrowers and those saving for retirement, rolled back women’s reproductive freedoms, proposed a tax reform plan that will benefit the wealthy and hurt the vulnerable, and supported a health care proposal that will reduce benefits and increase costs. Executive orders he’s signed have ranged from poorly planned to downright hateful, and he’s even ordered a reversal on protecting the environment. He has not addressed blatant conflicts of interest. And importantly, his Administration has continued to conceal information about connections with Russia and Russian interference with our elections. The lack of transparency is deeply troubling and must be addressed by an independent body. Nothing is more sacred to our democracy than free and fair elections, and we cannot allow this investigation to be sidelined.

“Despite all this, I’m encouraged to hear and see so many people across Oregon and the country raising their voices and fully engaging in our democracy. In Congress, I’ll continue to uphold Oregon’s values and hold the President and his Administration accountable at every opportunity.”
