Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici Hails Creation of 227,000 Jobs in February
Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici hailed today’s announcement by the U.S. Labor Department that the U.S. economy created 227,000 jobs in February:
“The February jobs numbers are a great sign that our economy is getting stronger by the day. And while this is very welcome news, we still have a lot of work to do to ensure the economic recovery is real, sustained, and felt by middle class families. Right now, many small businesses are still struggling to gain access to the capital they need to grow their bottom lines and to start hiring again, and many consumers are just now beginning to regain their faith in the market.
“On my very first day in Congress I signed on as a cosponsor of the Small Business Lending Enhancement Act, a bill that would allow credit unions to make more loans to small businesses – and more loans mean more jobs. That’s also why I have cosponsored bills to ease the tax burden on Oregon’s craft brewers and distillers, and why I am working hard to ensure that hard-won new consumer protections are not eroded. Strong consumer protections will help strengthen our economy by continuing to build confidence in the market.
“Northwest Oregon businesses are unique and diverse, but they all want to grow, hire, and contribute positively to the national economy. Today’s news shows the economy is continuing to move in the right direction.”
