Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici criticized actions by Donald Trump and Elon Musk targeting the Department of Education, stating, "Donald Trump and Elon Musk are trying to defund and dismantle public education. Their power grab is illegal and unconstitutional, and we won’t stand by and let them get away with it."

U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, D-Oregon, whose congressional district includes St. Helens, put out a statement Friday reading in part:
"The allegations that have been made to date reveal an alarming pattern and all those involved in the failures that have led to this crisis must be held accountable for their actions and for the harm caused by their actions. As a senior member of the Education and Workforce committee, a parent, a policymaker, and an Oregonian, I will assist and support the community.”
