Bonamici volunteers to help reunite separated families
U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, D-Oregon, during a speech on the House floor Wednesday offered to volunteer her own time to help reunite separated families.
The deadline to bring the families together was Tuesday. However, fewer than half have been reunited.
Bonamici demanded immediate action.
"I continue to demand the administration reunite all separated children with their parents. Not later, now," she said. "This is a court order, not a suggestion. If the problem is these agencies are understaffed, I'll come over to the agency. I'll go over to Health and Human Services to help."
Bonamici also shared stories of immigrant community leaders in Oregon who met with her Monday.
The Trump administration says it expects to reunite more than 2,000 families later this month.
