Chemawa Indian School leaders speak on past investigations, new directions

For the first time since a federal gag order prohibiting staff and students at Chemawa Indian School from speaking publicly about abuse allegations was lifted, leaders of the Native American boarding school are sharing their side of the story.

Reports came to fruition during a congressional hearing last May, in which Oregon U.S. Reps. Kurt Schrader and Suzanne Bonamici criticized the school for failing students and the tribes who entrusted their children to the school's care.
