Oregon Rep. introduces safe opioid disposal legislation
Legislators are fighting back against the nation's opioid crisis by tackling problems with prescription pills going unused. Often times, the leftovers end up in the wrong hands.
Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D-Ore. District 1) officially introduced H.R. 3171 in front of Congress on Monday, June 10. The Safe Disposal of Opioids Act, as it's called, would create a grant program to help qualified pharmacies and medical facilities acquire and maintain drug disposal bins. The emphasis is on placing the bins in community pharmacies and other health care settings where patients also receive medication, a summary of the legislation explained.
Bonamici gathered with local leaders in Washington County on Friday, June 7, to share a progress report on efforts to address the opioid crisis.
