Bonamici to Continue Leadership on Committee on Science, Space, and Technology

February 10, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC [2/10/23] – Today Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) announced that she will serve on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology’s Subcommittee on Environment and Subcommittee on Research and Technology.

As a senior member of the Committee, Bonamici will continue to craft policy to expand clean energy investments and innovative technologies, strengthen climate science, enhance the diversity of our federal science workforce, advance environmental research and standards, and bolster the semiconductor industry and advanced manufacturing. Her work will also support research at the Environmental Policy Administration, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Science Foundation, and National Institute of Standards and Technology.

“It is an honor to continue serving as a senior member of the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology and build on the tremendous progress we made last Congress,” said Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici.  “As the representative of NW Oregon’s Silicon Forest, I helped shape the CHIPS and Science Act to strengthen domestic semiconductor manufacturing and increase research and development. Semiconductors are an integral part of Oregon’s economy, and scaling up our domestic semiconductor manufacturing capacity is critical to meeting our economic and climate goals. I look forward to working on the implementation phase of the CHIPS and Science Act as a member of the Subcommittee on Research and Technology.”

“I will also continue my commitment to addressing the climate crisis in my work on both subcommittees. The comprehensive, science-based Climate Action Plan I helped author as a member on the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis informed many of the climate provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act. We must continue this work to transition to a clean energy economy and maintain our competitive edge in research and innovation.”

Bonamici has been a member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology since she joined Congress in early 2012. She is a leader on ocean research, protecting the health of the ocean and estuariesocean climate action, semiconductor production, and STEAM (integration of the arts into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). In the 116th and 117th Congresses Bonamici served on the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, where she helped draft the comprehensive Climate Action Plan.
