Bonamici Joins Science Subcommittees on Environment, Oversight
WASHINGTON D.C. [2/28/25] — The House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology Democrats have selected Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) to serve on the Subcommittee on Environment and the Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight.
“Oregon is home to cutting-edge research institutions and industry leaders in several key fields, including semiconductors, clean tech manufacturing, and marine science. I have always appreciated the bipartisan approach of the Science Committee’s work and I will continue to look for opportunities to advance our state’s priorities in 119th Congress. Although I remain hopeful that we can find areas of common interest, the first weeks of the Trump administration have made it clear that this is not business as usual. The Trump administration's reckless executive orders, Office of Management and Budget’s unlawful memo to freeze federal funding, and Elon Musk’s purge of dedicated civil servants have thrown our federal research enterprise into chaos. The firing of hundreds of NOAA experts will be especially harmful to Oregon, and I will continue to speak out against any attempts to sabotage our country’s dedicated scientists and researchers. Despite the challenges, I hope our colleagues on both sides of the aisle will work to strengthen, rather than diminish, U.S. scientific leadership.”
Bonamici has been a member of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee since 2012. She is a Co-Chair of the Ocean, Estuaries, STEAM Caucuses and a Vice-Chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), on which she serves as Co-Chair of the Climate and Labor Taskforce.
