Bonamici Statement on SCOTUS Decision Legalizing Same-Sex Marriage

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01) released the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision legalizing same-sex marriage.

“This is an historic day for marriage equality and for freedom in our country. Same-sex couples will no longer be restricted from marrying, and they and their families can live with dignity. This is an important and essential step forward, but the LGBTQ community still faces discrimination. Today we celebrate progress and recommit to creating greater equality for all.

“As Justice Kennedy wrote: ‘They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.’ ”
