Bonamici Votes to Support TPA, Emphasizes Importance of Worker Protection

June 18, 2015

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01) highlighted the benefits a trade agreement can bring to workers and businesses as she voted in favor of H.R. 2146, the Trade Priorities and Accountability Act.

“Our economy is increasingly global, and trade done right creates jobs, helps businesses grow, and puts our country on stronger economic footing,” Congresswoman Bonamici said. “Today I voted to give President Obama the authority to negotiate trade agreements with high labor and environmental protections and strong enforcement, which can help our businesses access more international customers, grow, and create jobs here at home.”

Congresswoman Bonamici also emphasized the importance of supporting workers through Trade Adjustment Assistance.

“I voted for TAA last week, and it is unfortunate that it did not pass at that time. The White House, Speaker Boehner, and Senate Majority Leader McConnell have all committed that TAA will receive a vote in the House and Senate and will be sent to the President’s desk without delay. Supporting workers is critical and I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure that this worker protection is signed into law.”
