Congresswoman Bonamici Invites High School Students to Participate in Congressional Art Competition

March 16, 2018

BEAVERTON, OR – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) is now accepting submissions for the 2018 Congressional Art Competition.

"The high school students in Oregon's First District have a lot of talent," said Congresswoman Bonamici. "As the co-founder of the bipartisan STEAM Caucus, I know that arts education helps students be more creative and learn problem-solving skills. The arts are also a powerful way for students to express their perspective on the important issues we face as a country. I look forward to seeing artwork from talented students across Northwest Oregon, and sharing the winner's work with visitors to the U.S. Capitol Building."

The competition is open to all students in grades 9-12 who reside in or attend school in Oregon's First Congressional District, which includes Washington, Yamhill, Clatsop, and Columbia Counties as well as part of Multnomah County. A panel of local artists will select the winner, and the winner's artwork will be publicly displayed for one year in the US Capitol. Additionally, the winner and a chaperone will receive a trip to Washington, DC for an award ceremony in June.

Students in Oregon's First Congressional District who are interested in participating can visit Bonamici's website are /services/art-competition. The deadline for submissions is April 27, 2018.
