Congresswoman Bonamici Statement on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

January 19, 2015

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01) released the following statement in commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

“Decades after his message of non-violence and racial and social justice penetrated the nation’s consciousness, Martin Luther King Jr. continues to serve as a powerful force in our country. The ideas he championed more than 50 years ago inspired millions of people and outlined a vision for a more just and equal nation. As we celebrate his life and work, we also acknowledge much of that work is unfinished. There is still racial conflict across the nation, and too many people are struggling to earn a living wage and provide a secure future for their family. Dr. King emphasized that economic opportunity is a pathway to greater prosperity for all Americans. Today we honor the progress Dr. King made and recommit to bridging racial and social injustices.”
