Rep. Bonamici Introduces Bipartisan Resolution Recognizing May as Older Americans Month
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici today introduced a bipartisan resolution that recognizes May as Older Americans Month.
“I am proud to introduce this bipartisan resolution to recognize the contributions of the country’s older Americans,” Congresswoman Bonamici said. “Seniors serve our country, contribute to our economy, raise families, and strengthen communities across the nation.”
In February, Congresswoman Bonamici and Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (D-TX) introduced a bill to reauthorize the Older Americans Act (OAA), which provides for the delivery of social and nutritional services to Americans age 60 and above. The OAA expired in 2011, and Congresswoman Bonamici’s reauthorization includes new protections and provisions to allow older Americans to continue to live longer, healthier lives.
“Much like my bill to reauthorize the OAA, today’s resolution seeks to empower the country’s older Americans,” Congresswoman Bonamici said. “Americans are living longer and want to live independently in their homes and communities. This resolution encourages the country to recognize the positive role of seniors in our society.”
