Rep. Bonamici Praises Passage of the Veterans Affairs Reform Bill

July 30, 2014

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01) released the following statement after voting in the House of Representatives to pass the Veterans Affairs reform bill.

“This legislation takes a substantive step toward improving care for our nation’s veterans, and it addresses the systemic problems within the VA. During a series of town hall meetings I heard from many local service members in my district about their struggles to access benefits. I am eager to see the provisions of this legislation enacted to help increase the number of doctors available, expand veterans’ access to private care in rural communities, and impose greater oversight of VA employees.”

“This legislation is an accomplishment, but there is still more to be done to ensure that our veterans have access to timely, quality health care and other supportive services through the VA. This bill also moves us closer to addressing the structural inefficiencies within the department, which have created problems throughout the years. I will continue to work on policies that provide our veterans in Oregon and across the country with the care and services they deserve.”

The bill passed the House 420-5.
