Rep. Bonamici Praises President Obama’s Executive Order to Ban LGBT Discrimination

June 16, 2014

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) released the following statement in response to the White House's announcement that President Obama will issue an executive order banning federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation.

“Americans should not have to hide who they are or who they love. The President’s executive order will protect many LGBT workers from discrimination and create better workplace environments across the country.

“LGBT employees contribute to our economy and to our culture, but in many states they can still be fired because of their sexual orientation. Americans should be treated equally wherever they work, and they should have the same opportunity to be hired as anyone else. I am a longtime supporter of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) and I'm proud to support this expansion of protections for the LGBT community.”
