Rep. Bonamici Statement in Response to President Obama’s Remarks on ISIS Strategy

Washington, D.C. —Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01) released the following statement in response to President Obama’s remarks on the ISIS strategy.

"ISIS has proven its brutality by beheading U.S. journalists, conducting ethnic cleansing, and indiscriminately killing hundreds, if not thousands, of people. Advertised mass murder and graphic reports of violence against women and children underscore the ruthlessness of ISIS and show the extent to which it will advance in its effort to solidify control in the Middle East.

"I support President Obama’s plan to work with international coalition partners to target and destroy ISIS. The approach the President announced this evening is a coordinated anti-terrorism strategy that does not involve putting U.S. troops on the ground. Our country has seen too much war, but we cannot ignore mass murder and despicable violence.

"This military approach must not be our only strategy. To fully destroy ISIS, we must continue to build the anti-ISIS coalition, disrupt the flow of finances and foreign fighters, and expose the true horrific nature of ISIS until its ability to attract new recruits is also destroyed. I will continue to closely monitor this volatile situation as it evolves."
