Rep. Bonamici Statement on Temporary DHS Funding Bill
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici released the following statement in response to the passage of a one-week Department of Homeland Security funding bill in the House of Representatives.
“It is stunning and disappointing that we are in another manufactured crisis, with a vote on a bill that funds the Department of Homeland Security for just one week. I voted in favor of this bill so the country will be protected, DHS employees will get a paycheck, and because we have been assured that we will be able to vote on a long-term bill next week. But make no mistake: this is irresponsible governing. This last-minute stop-gap is playing games with people’s lives.
“It is obvious that many of my colleagues do not agree with the President’s executive actions on immigration, but this is a dangerous way to express those views. We should be having a conversation about immigration reform. Our constituents expect us to address these issues without creating one crisis after another. We should be following the Senate’s bipartisan lead and passing a bill that funds the Department of Homeland Security through the year without any controversial amendments, and I look forward to doing that next week.”
