Bonamici Statement on Impeaching President Trump and Secretary Noem

January 20, 2026
Statements
I've clearly stated that President Trump must be impeached, and I voted to support Rep. Al Green’s impeachment resolution. President Trump and his cabinet have repeatedly and intentionally violated the U. S. Constitution and other federal laws and have committed multiple abuses of power. They have incited violence and weaponized and militarized immigration enforcement throughout the nation. This has tragically caused the loss of life and liberty, the arrest and detainment without due process of U.S. citizens as well as migrants, and uncountable violations of the right to free speech under the Constitution.

Donald Trump and his administration have usurped the power of Congress. They fired thousands of federal employees, refused to fund Congressionally approved programs, and launched many military actions without the constitutionally-required Congressional approval. The President has also accepted high-value gifts in violation of the Emoluments clause of the Constitution and engaged in other forms of rampant corruption for the personal benefit of himself, his family, and his friends.

President Trump’s reckless and illegal actions and his blatant violations of the Constitution and the Rule of Law are unquestionably grounds for impeachment.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem must also be impeached. Like the President, she has committed countless violations of civil and human rights. She has abused her powers, breached the public trust, and used her office for personal gain. I joined an impeachment resolution led by Representative Robin Kelly to remove Secretary Noem from office. ICE is an out-of-control, rogue federal agency, and both Trump and Noem have turned ICE agents and others into a dangerous paramilitary force filled with armed but inadequately trained and insufficiently supervised agents who are indiscriminately kidnapping and killing people across the
country.

We must put an end to the terror ICE is causing in Oregon and across the country, including by impeaching both President Donald Trump and Secretary Kristi Noem.

I’m working to pass the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act, the Preventing Authoritarian Policing Tactics on America’s Streets Act, and the Stop ICE from Kidnapping U.S. Citizens Act. These bills would: prohibit ICE from conducting immigration arrests at schools, churches, and hospitals; block the deployment of federal officers unless requested by local officials; and reaffirm that ICE does not have the authority to detain U.S. citizens.

I am also co-sponsoring legislation to amend the Constitution to limit the power of the president and another bill to move forward an amendment to the Constitution to reverse the U.S. Supreme Court’s disastrous decision on presidential immunity.

Congress must fulfill its Constitutional obligation to hold the President and his cabinet officials accountable. I will continue to do everything I can—including supporting impeachment—to stand up to this administration’s reckless attacks. If corrective actions are not taken, nothing short of liberty, security, and democracy are in grave jeopardy.
