Bonamici Statement on Israel Security Supplement Appropriations Act

Statements

Today I voted against the so-called Israel Security Supplement Appropriations Act. Importantly, the bill lacks funding for humanitarian aid that is urgently needed by Israelis and Palestinians. Additionally, the bill attempts to offset the cost of assistance with cuts to domestic programs, and it does so in a way that will actually add to the deficit.

House Republicans should set aside this divisive proposal and work together on a bipartisan supplemental package that includes assistance not only for Israel and the Middle East, but also for Ukraine and Taiwan. That bill would pass the House and Senate, and, unlike the bill the House considered today, would be signed by President Biden.
