At the start of the COVID pandemic and public health emergency, the Department of Education paused federal student loan payments and interest accrual for borrowers. This pause will end on September 1, 2023. President Biden proposed a plan to offer $10,000 - $20,000 in student loan forgiveness to individuals, but the courts blocked that plan.  In the meantime, the Department of Education is providing multiple pathways to affordable repayment and supporting a smooth transition for borrowers, including Fresh Start to access temporary benefits for borrowers and an on-ramp to repayment to provide borrowers with an additional grace period. The Department of Education has also created a Loan Simulator tool to compare how much you’ll be expected to pay each month under different repayment plans.  This webinar is to help you access these tools and answer any of your questions have about the start to repayment.

As a senior member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, Congresswoman Bonamici is a champion of affordability and equity in higher education. She is pleased to convene this event to connect you with helpful information and resources. Feel free to share this invitation with family and friends who may benefit from this information. You are welcome to submit a question or share your story with the Congresswoman upon submitting a RSVP to attend the webinar. We hope to see you there!
