Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today voted against H.R. 803, the Supporting Knowledge and Investing in Lifelong Skills (SKILLS) Act. The SKILLS Act eliminates several workforce investment programs designed to help veterans, the elderly, young workers, and other underserved constituency groups find work. The bill also eliminates the requirement that community colleges serve on Workforce Investment Boards.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today released the following statement in reaction to House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s Fiscal Year 2014 budget proposal.

“Chairman Ryan’s budget proposal is, once again, nothing more than a fruitless exercise. Instead of a serious attempt at lawmaking, this budget repackages proposals that the American people have repeatedly rejected. This approach failed in 2011, failed in 2012 and will fail again in 2013.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (OR-1) today reintroduced the Workforce Infrastructure for Skilled Employees (WISE) Investment Act. The legislation will establish a pilot program to provide grants to eligible workforce investment boards, community colleges, community-based organizations, apprenticeship training programs, and other vocational institutions to hire local business liaisons who will identify and analyze existing skills gaps and find ways to address them.

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today called for bipartisan cooperation to avert sequestration and released a new report that details how the across-the-board cuts would impact Oregon. According to the report entitled “Sequestration by the Numbers - A Snapshot for Oregon,” the state would suffer nearly 12,000 job losses, and lose substantial federal funding for an array of essential programs.
