As lawmakers push legislation to protect the nation's coastal waters, scientists are placing much of the blame for degrading ocean conditions on emissions from large energy companies including Exxon Mobil Corp., which was cleared Tuesday in a long-running climate course case.

A study published Wednesday in the scientific jounral Enviromental Research Letters found that carbon emissions from the largest energy and cement companies are responsible for more than half of a damaging side effect: increasing acidity in the planet's oceans, which harms marine life and coastal economies.

Combating climate change has long been a driving issue for Colorado Democratic Rep. Joe Neguse of Boulder. He ran on it; he was an early supporter of the Green New Deal; and he now serves on the House Select Committee on Climate Change, which held its first field hearing in Boulder this summer.

Students are set to skip school again Friday for another climate strike.

This isn't the first time students have cut class for the cause and they say it won't be their last.

Students in the Portland area say they'll continue striking until officials make real, tangible moves against the climate crisis.

The Madric climate change conference, COP25, began today and will last till Dec. 13. Per the U.N. website, the conference "is designed to take the next crucial steps in the U.N. climate change process" which includes making plans for 2020 climate action plans in areas such as finance, forests and agriculture, technology, capacity building, indigenous peoples, cities, oceans, and gender.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other congressional Democrats are in Madrid for U.N. climate talks this week, lending a high-profile voice to U.S. supporters of the Paris climate agreement as the 2020 elections heat up.

Democrats said their presence would demonstrate continued commitment to tackling climate change in the U.S. government, even as President Trump pulls out of the Paris Agreement.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) declared Monday that the United States will join other nations in their fight against climate change at a United Nations-led press conference in Madrid, Spain.

"By coming here we want to say to everyone, we're still in," Pelosi said of the U.S.'s commitment to tackling global warming. "The United States is still in."

A freshman Colorado congressman, troubled by allegations of climate censorship by the Trump administration, is attempting to make it harder for political appointees to scrub scientific information from government reports.

Rep. Joe Neguse (D-Colo.) introduced legislation this month dubbed the "Stop Climate Censorship Act." If enacted, it would require political appointees at federal agencies to provide data to back up any decisions to remove climate change content from scientific studies or press releases.
