Many organizations representing the interests of older adults were thrilled with the U.S. House's passage Monday of HR 4334, the Dignity in Aging Act of 2019, which reauthorizes the Older Americans Act. The leadership of Oregon Rep. Suzanne Bonamici on behalf of this bill was distinct and decisive. She chaired the subcommittee that produced the bill. Further, she ensured two things about the legislation and the process: It would be bipartisan and involve input from stakeholders.

As Democrats in the House of Representatives begin an impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump, Western Washington County residents packed the Cornelius Public Library on Wednesday, Oct. 2, to ask questions of U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici.

Multiple people asked Bonamici about the topic that has recently dominated national news: impeachment.

"We have a responsibility to hold this administration accountable," Bonamici said.

A celebration to recognize those involved with helping establish a 16-unit affordable housing apartment complex in St. Helens was hosted last week.

On Friday, July 19, a grand opening ceremony was held at the 18th Street Development, a recently completed affordable housing apartment complex — already fully occupied — as a way to honor those involved that made the project possible.

A grand opening event to celebrate the completion of a 16-unit affordable housing project in St. Helens will take place at the complex this Friday.

The recently completed 18th Street Development, which sits adjacent to the Community Action Team building on 17th Street, features more than a dozen 400-square-foot apartments to rent for those who are low-income, or at risk of homelessness.

House lawmakers weighed efforts to combat youth homelessness and pushed for more federal funding to address the issue at a hearing on Tuesday before the House Education and Labor Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Human Services.

The hearing, which focused on the difficulties faced by homeless youth and those in their communities working to address their needs, highlighted the bipartisan support for tackling those challenges.

On May 1, the St. Helens City Council held a public forum to discuss the current results of the Housing Needs Analysis, an ongoing project that began in October of 2018 to address current affordable housing shortages in St. Helens.
