Columbia County's Emergency Operations Center has added enhanced capabilities to its operations with the purchase of three portable communications units. Columbia County is the first jurisdiction in the state of Oregon to employ such devices.
Dubbed "PodRunners" by the manufacturer, the small but powerful equipment is designed to be fully deployable to even the most remote locations in the county.
The City of Wilsonville's South Metro Area Regional Transit (SMART) agency has been awarded a $1.45 million grant by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for the purchase of new electric-powered buses. Funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation's "Low or No-Emission (Low-No) Bus Program Projects," SMART plans to purchase two 35-foot battery-electric buses and their accompanying charging systems. The City of Wilsonville is providing a $400,000 match, giving the project a total amount of $1.85 million.
U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici is taking entries in the third-annual Congressional App Challenge.
The challenge has students use coding and computer science to create and exhibit a software application for mobile, tablet or other computers on a platform of their choice.
"Participating in the Congressional App Challenge will require creative thinking and technology skills so students will be engaging both halves of the brain," Bonamici said in a release.
U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici will take questions from constituents at a town hall meeting on Sept. 16 at the Jessie Mays Community Center, 30975 N.W. Hillcrest Street, in North Plains.
The Beaverton democrat announced six town halls, visits to North Plains, Tualatin,Yamhill, Columbia City, Portland and Cannon Beach, over the next month.
College costs, student loan debt and net neutrality were among the topics raised by some of Oregon's youngest workers when they met Monday (Aug. 28) with two U.S. representatives, both elected in 2012.
About two dozen employees of Ruby Receptionists, a Portland company that serves 7,000 small businesses through technology and human interactions, questioned Reps. Suzanne Bonamici of Oregon and Eric Swalwell of California.
Bonamici represents the 1st District, which covers northwest Oregon, including Portland west of the Willamette River.
CANNON BEACH — State Rep. Deborah Boone on Tuesday praised a bill approved by the Legislature that allows electricity produced from an ocean wave technology test site at Camp Rilea in Warrenton to be used to power the site.
Boone, a strong supporter of wave technology as renewable energy for the Oregon Coast, said initial tests conducted last summer showed promise for future growth in the industry.
