On March 24, Rep. Suzanne Bonamici announced that her office will start accepting applications for a program known as Community Project Funding. The CPF project allows members of Congress to get federal funding for specific projects in their communities, an application process that is "highly competitive," according to a release from Bonamici's office.

OCEAN EYED: Reps. Suzanne Bonamici (D-Ore.) and Bill Posey (R-Fla.) are calling on the Biden administration to include at least $10 billion in the next coronavirus recovery package for coastal restoration and resilience projects, citing the potential for healthy coastal ecosystems to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The lawmakers suggest projects like blue carbon sequestration; natural infrastructure; and the restoration of habitat to help threatened or endangered species. They also call on the administration to establish an Advanced Research Project Agency–Ocean.

Reps. Suzanne Bonamici (D-Ore.) and Bill Posey (R-Fla.) called on President Biden to commit $10 billion to coastal restoration and resilience efforts Wednesday. In a letter addressed to Biden, the representatives note that under the Obama administration, $167 million in stimulus funding was appropriated for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Office of Habitat Conservation for coastal restoration.

On March 16, Bonamici and New York Rep. Jamaal Bowman reintroduced Massachusetts Democrat Katherine Clark's Child Care is Infrastructure Act. The legislation establishes loan and grant programs for childcare facilities and early childhood educators to stem the childcare crisis in Oregon and around the country.

U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici prefers comprehensive legislation, but she and other Oregon Democrats voted to pass House bills to create a path to citizenship for young people who were brought to the United States illegally as children, and to give more security to migrant farmworkers and their families. Both bills head to the Senate, where their fate is uncertain in a chamber split evenly between Democrats and Republicans. Although Vice President Kamala Harris holds the tie-breaker, it takes 60 votes under current rules to break a potential filibuster.

These incidents raised red flag warnings for survivors of sexual assault, racism and other protected class violations to be wary of what they tell any employee of an institution in which they have been harmed.
