An Oregon Congresswoman visited a local fire station on Friday.

Representative Suzanne Bonamici went to the Banks Fire Department District #13.

During the visit, Representative Bonamici toured the station and training ground. She also met with fire personnel and volunteers.

Bonamici also praised the district's fire science high school program and discussed federal grants with Fire Chief Rodney Linz.

Clatsop Community College has secured $8.1 million in state bonds to renovate and expand its maritime-science program.

State Senate Bill 5505 provided $1.3 billion in general obligation and revenue bonds for capital construction projects around the state. The college's bonds will help add a second story and new infrastructure to the main building at the Marine and Environmental Research and Training Station, which houses the maritime-science program.

Community support agents recently met with a congresswoman to discuss issues related to housing and veteran services. Representatives from Community Action Team (CAT) presented a range of concerns to Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D) during a meeting on July 5 in St. Helens.

Bonamici, who represents the northwest region of the state, began by sharing her background in legal aid, working her way through college while serving low-income families, learning firsthand how legislative policies affect people's lives.

Oregon Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici joined Connecticut Congresswomen Rosa DeLauro and Florida Congresswoman Lois Frankel in leading more than 100 Members of the House of Representatives in calling on President Trump to replace his flawed paid leave proposal with a policy that will help families who are struggling to make ends meet.

President Trump's limited paid leave proposal offers six weeks of paid leave to working families in a narrow set of circumstances. In May Bonamici slammed the Trump plan, calling it "woefully inadequate."

KABUL, Afghanistan — Six female students from war-torn Afghanistan who had hoped to participate in an international robotics competition in the United States this month will have to watch via video link after their visas were denied not once, but twice.

The girls wanted to show the world that Afghans can also construct a hand-made robot, but out of 162 teams participating, the Afghan team was the only one to be denied visas.
