Energy and Environment

Information regarding my stance on Energy and Environment issues.

September 11, 2020

Oregon's U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden, along with U.S. Representatives Peter DeFazio, Earl Blumenauer, Greg Walden, Kurt Schrader, and Suzanne Bonamici, today announced that the White House has approved the state of Oregon's request for an emergency declaration in response to unprecedented and dangerous wildfires that are blanketing the state. The Senators and Representatives had pushed on Wednesday for the declaration to be granted, immediately following Governor Kate Brown's request.

September 11, 2020
My Oregon colleagues and I supported this federal emergency disaster declaration to bring critical resources to our state’s wildfire response, and I’m glad to see it was approved so quickly.

September 9, 2020
Given the severity and speed in which these fires are spreading across the state, we urge you to expedite the declaration process to ensure that local communities have the resources they need to respond to and recover quickly from these devastating wildfires.

In a letter from Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, along with Representatives Earl Blumenauer and Suzanne Bonamici, they wrote in part:

August 14, 2020
The use of tear gas was indiscriminate and often spread through surrounding areas on a nightly basis.

Our nation’s estuaries are often overlooked and undervalued, but they are among the world’s most productive working ecosystems.

July 17, 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic has created stress for families across our country, and many have to decide whether to pay their energy bills or buy food and medication.
