WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Representatives Mike Quigley (IL-05) and Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01) sent a letter to Speaker John Boehner and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi urging them to prioritize funding for federal defender services in current budget negotiations. Washington, D.C. –Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today released the following statement on the deal to end the government shutdown and remove the threat of a federal default.

Washington, D.C.-- Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today signed a petition to reopen the government. The petition was brought forward under a procedure known as a discharge petition, which allows a majority of members to bypass the Speaker and require an up or down vote on a bill. The federal government has been closed since October 1, 2013, and House leaders have repeatedly refused requests to allow a vote to reopen the government that does not include provisions to delay or repeal the Affordable Care Act.
