Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today introduced the Protecting Access to Primary Care Act (H.R. 2986) to improve access to primary care for individuals enrolled in Medicaid. The bill will improve reimbursement rates for nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other primary health care providers. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) presently provides improved reimbursement rates for physicians, but does not similarly increase reimbursement rates for other primary care providers like nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today voted against H.R. 2668 – a bill designed to undermine the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by delaying for one year the individual health insurance responsibility requirement. The lynchpin ACA provision, set to take effect on January 1, 2014, requires Americans, with a few exceptions, to have health insurance.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today voted against H.R.1797, legislation that would jail doctors who perform medically necessary, constitutionally protected abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Washington, D.C. – The entire Oregon congressional delegation has written to the Administrator of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Marilyn Tavenner, to ask her to use her authority to correct an anomaly used to calculate reimbursement rates for rural home health providers. Inconsistent data from one hospital in Coos Bay on the Oregon coast reduced rates for home health providers throughout the state. Correcting this error would allow rates to truly represent local operating costs.

“Today I voted against the 37th attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act. What we need now is a constructive dialogue about effectively implementing this landmark legislation, but instead we’re getting another bill that has no chance of becoming law.

Scappoose, Ore.— Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today toured Hi-School Pharmacy in Scappoose to discuss her support for a reform that would cut as much as $156 billion from the deficit over the next ten years and save seniors up to $27 billion through reduced drug prices over the same time period. The change would require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to negotiate prescription drug prices on behalf of Medicare Part D beneficiaries.
