Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today voted for the U.S. House budget proposal for fiscal year 2014 offered by Budget Committee Ranking Member Chris Van Hollen (D-MD). This proposal ends the sequester and adopts a balanced approach to budgeting. Unlike the austerity approach of Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) budget, the Democratic alternative closes tax loopholes, eliminates wasteful spending, and makes strategic investments to strengthen the economy.
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today called for bipartisan cooperation to avert sequestration and released a new report that details how the across-the-board cuts would impact Oregon. According to the report entitled “Sequestration by the Numbers - A Snapshot for Oregon,” the state would suffer nearly 12,000 job losses, and lose substantial federal funding for an array of essential programs.
Current Law Covers Only Half of All Americans
Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (OR-1) and Congressman Greg Walden (OR-2) introduced legislation--H.R. 6635, the TRICARE Protection Act--to protect thousands of military retirees in Oregon from sudden loss of access to primary care doctors. The Department of Defense announced in October that only TRICARE beneficiaries within a forty mile radius of a medical treatment facility would be eligible to participate in the lower cost TRICARE Prime program, raising costs for all TRICARE members outside this range.
