Information regarding my stance on Veterans' issues.
The department said they expect to receive an additional 50 vouchers for homeless veterans by spring of 2022. "As winter sets in, I continue to think about the thousands of Oregonians and Americans experiencing homelessness. Finding a solution to the lack of affordable, accessible housing will take collaboration across all levels of government and the private sector," stated Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici.
The Washington County commissioner and former Hillsboro mayor keynoted the county's Veterans Day ceremony.
The father of U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici of Beaverton also served in the Navy.
"I want to assure everyone that this is a coincidence," she said as the audience laughed.
Bonamici quoted from a 1963 Veterans Day proclamation by President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated just 11 days later, that the day is meant to honor men and women who have served in war and who also seek peace with "patience, perseverance and courage."
On November 9th, 2018, state, community and national leaders will convene to celebrate the expansion of Lines for Life's work with the Veterans Crisis Line (VCL). Lines for Life supports the VCL in meeting the needs of veterans in crisis nationwide as the VCL's sole back-up call center. This is a significant expansion of Lines for Life's Military Services, which includes the Military Helpline, funded by the State of Oregon.
Bonamici gave a general overview of issues that surfaced at other town hall meetings, ranging from healthcare and immigrant family separations, to the environment, Social Security, Medicare and the Trump administration.
Bonamici began by explaining her view on healthcare, a topic she said many are worried about. "I'm interested in strengthening access to health care, not taking it away," she said. "We need to work together to find a way to make sure that people have access to health care."
