Washington, DC – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) today called for bipartisan cooperation to avert sequestration and released a new report that details how the across-the-board cuts would impact Oregon. According to the report entitled “Sequestration by the Numbers - A Snapshot for Oregon,” the state would suffer nearly 12,000 job losses, and lose substantial federal funding for an array of essential programs.
Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (OR-1) and Congressman Greg Walden (OR-2) introduced legislation--H.R. 6635, the TRICARE Protection Act--to protect thousands of military retirees in Oregon from sudden loss of access to primary care doctors. The Department of Defense announced in October that only TRICARE beneficiaries within a forty mile radius of a medical treatment facility would be eligible to participate in the lower cost TRICARE Prime program, raising costs for all TRICARE members outside this range.
Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici will speak at Memorial Day services this Monday at the Willamette National Cemetery (10 am) and the Veterans Gateway at the Washington County Fairgrounds (2 pm). She made the following statement today to mark the observance:
“This Memorial Day we honor America’s service members who lost their lives to protect ours. Those brave men and women in uniform made the ultimate sacrifice to protect not only our country, but freedom and democracy around the world. To all service members, their families, and our nation’s veterans, I thank you.”
