The sharp spike is linked to an outbreak at Pacific Seafood in Warrenton. The Oregon Health Authority has reported 86 total cases tied to the facility, prompting scrutiny from U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, a Democrat who represents the area.

U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici on Tuesday called on the Oregon Health Authority and Pacific Seafood to provide more information and address community concerns about the coronavirus outbreak at the Warrenton plant. Pacific Seafood has said 95 workers have tested positive for the virus, the largest workplace outbreak in Clatsop County during the pandemic.

Reducing health disparities in the United States requires a broad approach, from access to primary care to participation in clinical trials. As a cancer survivor, I'm keenly aware of the need for diversity and addressing disparities when it comes to tackling this disease. About one in five cancer clinical trials fail because of a lack of participation. Racial and ethnic groups, older, rural and poorer Americans are all under-represented in trials that do move ahead.

Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici, whose district includes Warrenton, pressed state health officials Tuesday for answers about the outbreak. Saying she was "deeply concerned," Bonamici questioned if the outbreak had been preceded by complaints about the facility and what steps are being taken to maintain physical distancing in worker housing. "This outbreak threatens the health, well-being and economic stability of many Clatsop County residents, including businesses and workers who are afraid of a new wave of closures," Bonamici wrote in a letter to the Oregon Health Authority.

Rep. Suzanne Bonamici published a six-part Twitter thread wherein she called on the Senate to "stop the hypocrisy, oppose this [nomination]." "Donald Trump has pledged to appoint Supreme Court justices who will overturn #RoeVWade, and Amy Coney Barrett has made clear that, in her opinion, a justice can overturn established precedent if it conflicts with their understanding of the Constitution," said Bonamici in the thread.

Oregon Democrats Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley and Reps. Earl Blumenauer and Suzanne Bonamici wrote to Chad Wolf, the embattled acting DHS secretary, Thursday. The letter asked four questions based on a report by The Nation's Ken Klippenstein alleging DHS and potentially other federal agencies tapped Portland protesters' phones.

"Congress has enacted strict legal protections which require government agencies to obtain the approval of an independent judge before searching Americans' devices and surveilling their communications," states the September 25 letter, signed by US Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, as well as US Reps. Earl Blumenauer and Suzanne Bonamici.
