Washington, D.C. – Today, the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology advanced Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici’s Harmful Algal Blooms and Hypoxia Research and Control Act, which protects Oregon and communities across the country from the effects of harmful algae.

“The decision today is a major victory for same-sex couples in Oregon, who will no longer face discrimination when they want to marry the person they love. This ruling is consistent with decisions in more than a dozen states that have held that banning same-sex marriage is unconstitutional.

The Government Reporting Efficiency Act addresses the thousands of reports that are researched, written, printed, and delivered to Capitol Hill based on long-standing laws, some of which were passed by Congress decades ago.

Bonamici will provide an update on her work in Congress and take questions from residents. The town hall meetings will be held in: Portland, Hillsboro, Beaverton, Gearhart, Vernonia, McMinnville, Newberg, and Scappoose.

Beaverton, OR – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici spoke with LGBTQ seniors and advocates today about her legislation to reauthorize the Older Americans Act (OAA) and emphasized how the bill recognizes the needs of LGBTQ seniors.

Bonamici held a roundtable discussion at Friendly House in Portland to discuss the bill. Her reauthorization legislation includes new provisions for LGBTQ seniors, who are more likely to live in poverty and lack a family support system.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici announced that a panel of professional artists has selected Supriya Kapur, a student at Beaverton’s Sunset High School, as the winner of the 2014 Congressional Art Competition for Oregon’s 1^st District.

“This year’s submissions were excellent and I thank all the talented students who submitted their work,” Bonamici said. “My office received more than 55 submissions, all demonstrating creativity and talent. The judges had a lot of great choices this year when they selected a winner.”
