PORTLAND, Ore. —
Oregon lawmakers Earl Blumenauer and Suzanne Bonamici want US Immigration Customs and Enforcement to investigate an incident outside the Washington County Courthouse earlier this week, when a US citizen was repeatedly questioned on his "immigration status" by federal agents.
The story was first reported by the Oregonian.
Rep. Peter DeFazio (OR-04), along with Reps. Greg Walden (OR-02), Earl Blumenauer (OR-03), Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01), and Kurt Schrader (OR-05) today sent a second letter to House leaders and the House Appropriations Committee requesting that emergency funding for wildland fire suppression be included in any emergency supplemental appropriations bill considered in the House for the rest of the year.
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Rep. Suzanne Bonamici sharply disagreed with Attorney General Jeff Sessions' stance on immigration and sanctuary cities in a live interview on KOIN 6 News at 4.
Bonamici, who is moving through her Oregon district for town halls, said Oregon "realized it is safer when we don't use local and state resources to enforce federal immigration laws. That is ICE's responsibility. We want everyone to participate in the justice system and to feel safe reporting crimes."
U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici says she still wants to see comprehensive legislation to deal with the fate of the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants who entered the country illegally.
But Bonamici also says she's willing to vote for specific protection against deportation of 800,000 young immigrants — known as "dreamers" — who were brought here illegally while they were children.
