State and federal politicians from Oregon are calling on the Trump administration and Congress to provide funds for battling wildfires ravaging the state.
Some of the elected officials also urged Congress to change how the federal government doles out wildfire aid in the West.
More than a dozen wildfires are raging across western Oregon as of Tuesday, with metro areas home to millions blanketed by ashy air. Officials predict the fires will continue burning for days or weeks, leaving the full extent of their damage still unknown.
August Recess is coming to an end. As members prepare to head back to Capitol Hill, Roll Call takes a look at how some lawmakers spent the month.
College costs, student loan debt and net neutrality were among the topics raised by some of Oregon's youngest workers when they met Monday (Aug. 28) with two U.S. representatives, both elected in 2012.
About two dozen employees of Ruby Receptionists, a Portland company that serves 7,000 small businesses through technology and human interactions, questioned Reps. Suzanne Bonamici of Oregon and Eric Swalwell of California.

U.S Rep. Suzanne Bonamici has been spending her congressional recess learning about — and drawing attention to — different local programs that face federal funding cuts, and this morning was no different.
Just days before the end of the August congressional recess, U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici spent part of her Tuesday visiting the Elsie Stuhr Center in Beaverton, then riding shotgun for a Meals on Wheels tour of the area, to meet seniors and to discuss their issues.
When the U.S. House of Representatives reconvenes in September, Bonamici said, the stories she gleans from these ride-alongs will help her fight for her primary issues: including services for seniors.
U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici toured Beaverton on Tuesday with Meals on Wheels, visiting seniors at their homes.
She says the service is crucial for older Americans, and she'll fight to keep it around despite threats of budget cuts from the White House.
She says it's not just about the meals and nutrition, but for many of the seniors it's a chance for social contact and to engage with someone for a little while.
"When we can keep seniors healthy in their homes, it is better for the senior, and it's better for the family, and it's better for the communities," she said.
McMINNVILLE, Ore. — An Oregon member of Congress heard from organic dairy cooperative members last week about what they want from the next farm bill.
Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, D-Ore., toured the newly refurbished Organic Valley Creamery and Forest Glen Jerseys dairy farm on Aug. 25 and was briefed on the co-op's priorities as Congress works on a new farm bill.
U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici says she continues to plug away at regional priorities, particularly in education and the environment, despite turmoil on the national political stage.
"I am an eternal optimist, even in these hard times," she said Thursday (Aug. 24) at a breakfast of the Westside Economic Alliance at the Embassy Suites in Tigard.
