Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, D-Ore., introduced the resolution measure on Friday, with 27 other Democrats signing on and with backing from nearly 50 education and advocacy organizations.
The Bill of Rights for Students and Parents, unveiled by Oregon Rep. Suzanne Bonamici on Friday, calls for well-rounded education "rooted in evidence-based practices" to support teachers, students and families.
In response to the Republicans’ controversial parental rights bill, House Democrats plan to introduce alternative legislation Friday that will call for “inclusive” schools and oppose efforts to censor curriculum.
Bonamici introduced an amendment which would prohibit institutions of higher education from requiring athletes to provide reproductive and sexual health information, including information about an athlete’s menstrual cycle.
Bonamici was honored with the National Parent Teacher Association’s 2023 Congressional Voice for Children Award, alongside Sen. Mitt Romney, for their efforts in Congress to advance topics and bills related to school-aged children.
Balensifer noted that in addition to increasing student safety, the project will help the overall livability downtown.
“It wouldn’t be possible without Congresswoman Bonamici’s help on this, because the cost of doing — Warrenton is low, below sea level — so the cost of doing sidewalks … is a major deal,” the mayor said. “We’re talking significant funds.”
After redistricting in 2020, Bonamici’s district now encompasses Tillamook County and she is excited to be representing a larger portion of the Oregon coast.
“I’m honored to have Tillamook County joining the first congressional district,” Bonamici said in a recent interview with the Herald.
