U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici says the current impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump may draw most of the public's attention, but the House is working on other issues affecting people's lives.
As an example, Bonamici said, a House subcommittee she leads has produced a bill (HR 4334) to extend federal spending authority under the Older Americans Act, which was originally passed in 1965.
While the impeachment of Donald Trump was at the top of mind at Gearhart's congressional town hall Monday, U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici fielded questions about the federal deficit, foreign policy and her position on equal rights.
But overall it was the topic of civility that dominated evening, the fifth of sixth town hall events in the state.
U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici said she would likely vote to impeach President Donald Trump based on the evidence that has emerged so far about his appeals to Ukraine to investigate a political rival.
"In the past, I've expressed concerns about policy differences with this administration," Bonamici said at a town hall Monday night at Gearhart Elementary School. "But when we learned the president was compromising our national security and raising national security issues, that's when I said my constituents and Americans deserve to get the facts."
The U.S. House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment and Climate Change voted unanimously Sept. 26 to move the Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now Act of 2019 to the full House. The bill is sponsored by Oregon U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici and Sen. Jeff Merkley.
"It is long past time to protect workers and communities by banning asbestos once and for all, and I look forward to working with the Senate and getting this bill across the finish line," Bonamici said in a press statement.
As Democrats in the House of Representatives begin an impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump, Western Washington County residents packed the Cornelius Public Library on Wednesday, Oct. 2, to ask questions of U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici.
Multiple people asked Bonamici about the topic that has recently dominated national news: impeachment.
"We have a responsibility to hold this administration accountable," Bonamici said.
U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici will be in Gearhart for a town hall on Oct. 7.
"Constituent input informs the work I do, including taking action on the climate crisis, addressing student loan debt, and making sure everyone can access affordable health care," the Oregon Democrat said in a news release.
Democratic U.S Rep. Suzanne Bonamici made a three-point stop in St. Helens this past week. The congresswoman toured Legacy Health Clinic, the City of St. Helens' waterfront redevelopment site, and St. Helens Middle School, where she was slated to be met by State Rep. Brad Witt (D-Clatskanie).
"I know access to health care is important to the people I'm honored to represent, but particularly in rural communities," Bonamici said.
A larger vehicle will enable Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Clinic to provide better service to migrant workers and school children in the two counties it serves.
The new mobile clinic made its debut Tuesday, Aug. 6, in a ceremony at The Round/Beaverton City Hall during National Health Center Week. It also was scheduled for a stop Friday, Aug. 9, in Cornelius.
"It's a full medical and dental clinic on wheels," said Kasi Woidyla of Virginia Garcia. "We treat a lot of different ailments and we do it right here."
