Washington, D.C. – Oregon’s U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden, and U.S. Representative Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01), are expressing serious concern over the planned closure of labor and delivery services at Providence Seaside and call on Providence Health & Services to support families and clinicians affected by the decision.

WASHINGTON – Ranking Member Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03), House Committee on Education and Workforce, and Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education Subcommittee Ranking Member Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01), House Committee on Education and Workforce, raised concerns to Department of Agriculture Secretary (USDA) Brooke Rollins regarding the agency’s abrupt announcement to reorganize USDA. This follows harmful agency relocations under the first Trump Administration. This latest push occurs as families and farmers suffer critical food program disruptions because of failed Trump Administration policies. “We are concerned that this abrupt announcement of the reorganization plan comes without full details or substantiation regarding how the reorganization would improve program operations and efficiency,” wrote the Members. “The process surrounding the reorganization plan has not been transparent, nor has the Department clearly articulated how it is handling input from farmers, community partners, anti-hunger advocates, and state and local officials.”

Donald Trump mobilized a record-number of Americans across voting blocs in 2024. Now, Trump 2.0 appears to be galvanizing an equally impressive opposition. Constituent engagement with the congressional office of Rep. Suzanne Bonamici in the form of calls, emails and letters has increased two to threefold since the days of Joe Biden.

There is nothing beautiful about this bill. Over the past several weeks I've heard from many constituents in NW Oregon who are overwhelmingly opposed to this harmful and partisan legislation.

At the meeting, Bonamici fielded questions from residents concerned about various policies of President Donald Trump’s administration and said that she and fellow democrats would fight those policies and work to turn the electoral tide in the 2026 midterm elections.
