PORTLAND, Ore. — U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, D-Oregon, toured an outdoor recreation business in the heart of the district she represents Friday.
She and members of Oregon’s State of the Sport coalition toured Snow Peak in Portland.
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, and U.S. Reps. Earl Blumenauer, Suzanne Bonamici, Val Hoyle and Andrea Salinas said today that the University of Oregon, Oregon State University and Portland State University have each secured $1 million, two-year federal research grants that were authorized in the CHIPS and Science Act.
Washington, D.C. – Oregon’s U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden, along with Oregon’s U.S. Representatives Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR-01), Val Hoyle (D-OR-04), Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR-05), and Andrea Salinas (D-OR-06), announced today that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved $52 million to purchase Pacific Groundfish and Seafood Products.
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley and U.S. Representatives Earl Blumenauer, Suzanne Bonamici, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, Val Hoyle, and Andrea Salinas said today they are urging the Department of Commerce to issue an expedited declaration of a fishery resource disaster for Oregon, which would trigger immediate federal aid.
Following the tour, Congresswoman Bonamici took a moment to speak with the Chronicle on the importance of her visit, and some of the things she's working on in Washington.
As a member of two House committees – Education and Labor, and Science, Space and Technology – Rep. Suzanne Bonamici attached several scientific research programs to the legislation to make it a “science” act. Bonamici represents a district that includes many of the companies in the Silicon Forest.
“We have a skilled semiconductor workforce in Washington County. But it has tremendous potential to grow,” she said. “We know there are a lot of good-paying jobs in this industry, and not all of them require a four-year or advanced degree.”
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo talked up Oregon’s strengths in the semiconductor industry at a roundtable with lawmakers, higher education leaders and industry professionals at Portland Community College’s Willow Creek campus.
