WASHINGTON, D.C. [1/8/26] –Today Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici announced that the House has passed a bill with five Community Projects she championed. These projects will bring nearly $6 million in federal investment to NW Oregon.

The House passed the Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; and Interior and Environment Appropriations Act for FY 2026 with strong bipartisan support. The appropriations bills, which include funding for the community projects listed below, will now move to the Senate.

A pilot program from the Oregon Coast Visitors’ Association (OCVA), the express will offer two routes to the north coast departing from and returning to the transit center Friday through Sunday, aimed at giving day trippers and weekend visitors a vehicle-free way to access the north coast.

“I’m thrilled that there’s going to be a new and convenient transit option to get to the north coast without a car,” Bonamici said at the ceremony.

“There’s nothing political about this,” Bonamici told KMUN on Friday during a visit to the Columbia Memorial construction site. “This is saving lives and property. The more we can convince the administration that, number one, these are dollars that have already been committed and projects underway, but also that…this is not a political issue: This is exactly what FEMA should be doing and could be doing.”

In a letter, the Members shared: “Across our districts, natural disasters are no longer confined to a ‘season’; instead, the risks persist throughout the year, and it’s critical to prepare our communities as we learn to live with worsening natural disasters. Building resilient communities is an undeniable role of the federal government, and the unlawful termination of BRIC abandons our commitment to the communities that we serve.”

Terminating the BRIC program, including the terminations of projects that are already underway, is not only wasteful and makes us less safe, but will make our communities bear a higher cost for repairs and recovery when disaster inevitably strikes.
