Transportation and Infrastructure
“Pier 2 West in Astoria is crucial to the region’s economy, but the structure has been deteriorating over the years,” Bonamici, an Oregon Democrat who represents the North Coast, said in a statement. “I’m thrilled that the Port of Astoria will receive close to $25.3 million from USDOT to make overdue repairs to this essential infrastructure.”
Bonamici said she’s found herself trapped at a train crossing before and that in addition to the everyday frustration, the frequent jam-ups can create real challenges for people.
“If someone is trying to get to doctor’s appointment or a meeting, it can be incredibly frustrating and challenging and, frankly, not safe for people to be trying to find a way to get around the train,” she said.
On a hot morning Aug. 15, Bonamici surveyed the developing site of the future riverwalk and Columbia View Park and toured the areas under construction as part of the Streets and Utilities Extension Project.
“It’s been a few years since I’ve been here, and it’s wonderful to see the vision but also the progress that’s being made; I look forward to following the process as it continues to grow,” Bonamici said.
U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici visited Clatsop County on Tuesday, where she heard an update on the rehabiliation project at the South Jetty, learned about local food initiatives at the Astoria Food Hub and visited the Astoria Birth Center.

As part of the latest round of community project funding proposals in the U.S. House of Representatives, Bonamici is advocating for $3 million to go toward proposed safety improvements along a section of TV Highway in Forest Grove to increase safety for walkers and bikers along the busy corridor.
82nd Avenue is an area leaders say has been stricken by poverty and inequality. It's centered in one of the most racially and culturally diverse areas in the state of Oregon.
“82nd Avenue is the economic and cultural heart of a thriving and diverse community. There are countless stores and restaurants and other destinations that really reflect the cultural and language-specific needs of community members," said U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, D-Oregon.
