Foreign Affairs and National Security
It is critical that we maintain America's role as a leader in the international community. The use of force should always be a last resort and diplomacy must be emphasized in all of our relationships around the world. As a member of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, I understand the importance of working with other countries to find peaceful solutions wherever possible, maintaining a focus on diplomacy, democracy, human rights, and development.
We have the best military in the world and I am dedicated to supporting our troops. It is important, however, to be realistic about our defense spending and what is truly necessary for our national security. Our spending should focus on what our military needs to keep our country safe—like investments in intelligence and cybersecurity—not what makes good politics.
We have also seen an increase in hateful rhetoric toward refugees and immigrants. We must maintain our focus on keeping our nation safe and secure, but we cannot allow discrimination to dictate our nation's policies. Any refugee seeking to come to the United States must go through an intensive and lengthy screening process. In our nation, diversity makes us stronger. With that strength we must summon our collective humanity to provide a place for refugees, many of whom are women and children, fleeing war and terrorism.

Technology industry insiders, students and government officials gathered at Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech) Wilsonville campus Nov. 20 to hear Gov. Kate Brown to proclaim the date "Oregon Day of Cyber" as well as officially unveil the Cyber Oregon initiative.
The initiative is designed to create a network of cyber security resources, educational tools and training programs to help public and private enterprises stay safe online while helping develop the cyber security community.
Kris Rosenberg's oven has Wi-Fi, and it makes the Oregon Institute of Technology cybersecurity professor a bit nervous.
Rosenberg said the design feature in and of itself isn't an issue. But the oven presents a risk, in theory, because it could be hacked and remotely activated.
In a world of smartphones, ever-changing passwords and cameras everywhere, the oven is just another device that needs to be managed and protected.
WASHINGTON, DC [10/05/17] – Today Congresswoman Bonamici released the following statement after voting against the Congressional Republican's budget bill, which lays the groundwork for massive tax reform through a process known as reconciliation.
Yamhill Valley News Register
YAMHILL — First District Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici would really like to meet Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.
Bonamici told participants in a Sept. 18 town hall audience in Yamhill that most secretaries of education pay frequent visits to the House education committee, on which she serves. But she said DeVos, confirmed by the Senate Feb. 7 on a 51-50 vote, requiring the vice president to cast a rare tiebreaker, has yet to make an appearance.

U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici says she still wants to see comprehensive legislation to deal with the fate of the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants who entered the country illegally.
But Bonamici also says she's willing to vote for specific protection against deportation of 800,000 young immigrants — known as "dreamers" — who were brought here illegally while they were children.
