The rise in antisemitism, hate, racism, and bigotry in our country cannot be tolerated, and the hateful rhetoric we are hearing on a daily basis must end.  

Today I voted against the so-called Israel Security Supplement Appropriations Act. Importantly, the bill lacks funding for humanitarian aid that is urgently needed by Israelis and Palestinians.

I have been fortunate to call Earl Blumenauer a mentor and a friend since I first ran for Congress. 

Before the vote today, the U.S. House of Representatives had only used the process to vacate the Speaker of the House once. That was more than a century ago, and the motion failed. This is a serious moment in the history of this institution.

Discrimination should never be allowed against any person because of who they are or who they love.

The Supreme Court’s decision to strike down President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan is deeply disappointing for the more than 490,000 Oregonians who would have received forgiveness, most of whom were low-income students.

Today’s decision striking down affirmative action is a loss for our increasingly diverse country and a devastating blow to fairness and equity in higher education.

It would be devastating for our country to default, but I could not in good conscience vote for a plan to lift the debt ceiling that would harm some of the most vulnerable people in our country and undermine bedrock environmental laws.
